Publishing House [Z]OO Productions presents the new Roots cahier about graphic designer Peter te Bos, written by Jeroen van Erp, at Concerto in Amsterdam.
Peter te Bos (Alkmaar 1950) was trained at the Graphic School in Amsterdam. While he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the 1970s, he was the assistant to Anthon Beeke at Total Design. He then worked for a year for John McConnell at Pentagram in London. In 1981 he returned to Amsterdam to graduate. After having been part of Samenwerkende Ontwerpers for six months, he started working as an independent designer, which he has done ever since.
From 1984 onwards Te Bos has been enjoying a successful career both as a designer and a musician. As the leader of the band Claw Boys Claw he has acquired a reputation as an energetic and colorful stage personality. Both capacities come together in his designs for the album covers of Claw Boys Claw and from 1993 in his multifaceted work for the Lowlands Festival.
Jeroen van Erp: “At the Lowlands project, all areas of expertise that maverick Te Bos had acquired over the years, came together: his experience with corporate identities at Total Design and Pentagram, his affinity with music, his love of fine art, his talent for designing 3-dimensional objects, his boundless energy and, last but not least, his sense of humor.”
Roots is a collaboration between [Z]OO producties and Wilco Art Books. The aim of the series is to generate attention for the roots of the Dutch graphic design culture. Roots is wholeheartedly supported by The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), Pictoright and Wim Crouwel Instituut.
