Ruud-Jan Kokke (1956) obtained his Bachelor’s degree at the Sociale Academie (‘Social Academy’) in Enschede. He consequently studied at the departments of Free Art and Environmental Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem (1979-1981). He then started a carpentry business. He made his first design, the Kokke Chair, in 1984. Initially he sold them to furniture stores by himself, but later on the production and sales were handed over to Metaform. In 1986, he started an all-round design agency. His designs are characterised by sophisticated details and surprising constructive inventiveness.
