ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2024, Sander Veenhof is one of them.

Experiencing something together is something that makes almost every person happy. Yet we spend much of the day alone, staring at our cell phones. All the world passes by us, but we lack an eye for our immediate surroundings. Will we ever get it right? Yes, says designer Sander Veenhof. And for that we don’t have to put our phones aside.

On the contrary. By pointing your phone at the world around you, you discover that together with others you are in a semi-digital world where anything can happen. And soon you won’t even need your phone to do that, the virtual permanently comes to life as you look around through your augmented reality glasses.

To explore what that means and enables for us as human beings, Sander Veenhof founded WerkplaatsVNHF during his DDD prgram this year. There, he conducts hands-on research into the near future, which he sees with hope. Because if it is up to Veenhof, shaping our semi-digital existence is not just about hyper-efficiency and data. One of the three pillars he focuses on in his workshop is remarkable playfull interaction forms, contact with people who are also in that shared mixed reality. Knowns, as well as strangers. Meet Your Stranger! Curious? Come experience it in person at the Evoluon during the Dutch Design Week.

Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship.
