One Week About The Social Design Lobby, today Arttenders x Cindy Bakker

The Shape of Rotterdam is the result of extensive opportunity research into how tourism, welfare, sport, greening, climate adaptation, area development and local needs of residents and entrepreneurs can be combined in a functional design for public space. In the coming years, several spots in the city will be developed into ‘playscapes’.

As a pilot, Arttenders developed a temporary icon for the Zuidplein in Rotterdam. The result is The Splash: an interactive meeting place, inspired by paddling pools from the 1960s, designed by Arttenders and artist Cindy Bakker. From salsa lessons and tag games to lounging in the sun, The Splash is for everyone!

Rotterdam is a city where the Make-it-Happen mentality can be seen and felt. With people and organisations who make a clear choice for Rotterdam and give it their own twist. Whether they live here, are visiting, run their own business or are studying.

The Shape of Rotterdam connects this mentality and attitude with the urban development of the city. With, by and in the service of all Rotterdammers.

In the countdown to the new year, we also count down to the start of the Social Design Scheurkalender 2022. The calendar can still be ordered via and will be sent to you. The more people tear up, the better the position of social design!
