Neurotransmitter

The neurotransmitter by designer Daniel de Bruin originates in his position as maker opposite the made object. At a time when computers and machines are increasingly taking over our work, he explores how he, as a maker, can deal with this phenomenon.

Daniel: “If machines take over my work, what will remain of me as a maker? The technical developments of all these kinds of progress fascinate me, but perhaps the consequences of them fascinate me even more. To investigate this, I have made a 7 meter high construction of which I’m literally part of. A machine that I have built myself, but the limits of which I don’t know.”

“The neurotransmitter will be controlled by my own biometric data. I will paste the sensors on my body and they will measure, amongst other things, my heart rate, perspiration, blood pressure and breathing. I can forward the data thus obtained to the machine. This will enable the machine to respond to my body and my body to the machine.”
