In the project ‘This Fits Me’, Leonie Tenthof van Noorden examines the application of generative algorithms for the design of unique garments.
She designed a system creating a perfectly fitting garment based on a 3D body scan of the customer. In the system, a generative interplay of lines is projected on the garment. Using different variables in the algorithm, customers can adjust this interplay of lines as they please and thus give the garment a personal touch.
The created line pattern defines the seams in the garment, creating a new way of patterning garments. The loose pattern pieces are cut out of fabric by means of a laser cutter, which accelerates the production of custom-made garments.
‘This Fits Me’ is a Master graduation project at the faculty of Industrial Design at the University of Technology Eindhoven.
