When we enter Karin van Dam’s installations, at no point does the thought arise that it is a metamorphosis of ready-made objects.
In the sketch phase, she arrives at the image by doing. This is also where her drawings and sculptures arise, which stand on their own but may develop into room-filling installations. Without a predetermined plan, but through an intuitive process. ‘I have an idea, but in the spontaneity, in the creation, in the play, in the adventure, that’s where it happens’.

Her work is constantly in motion. She often returns to previous artworks to combine, rework, add to and expand them. Each piece is a continuation of previous work and forms a bridge to what comes after. This search and find process never ends.
The spaces in which she builds her installations influence and determine the direction in which the work develops. She is a connector and the search is like the endless TIJ (Tide).

Karin van Dam received her education at the Royal Academy of Art and Design, ‘s-Hertogenbosch. From 2006-2024 she was a lecturer at ArtEZ in Arnhem and a guest lecturer at various art academies. She exhibited her work at home and abroad. Her work is included in various museum collections.
