Design and craftsmanship come together in the heart of Roermond. Six contemporary designers show how they combine their passion for craftsmanship with a contemporary vision, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation with their designs. Like Pierre Cuypers, they are masters at connecting different disciplines, with a keen eye on the world around them.

The six designers in this exhibition are nominees for the Harrie Tillie Prize and the Limburg Design Award 2025. During your visit, you can cast a vote for the public award.
Harrie Tillie Prijs and Limburg Design Award
In the fall of 2025, the Municipality of Roermond will present the Limburg Design Award and the Harrie Tillie Prize. Nominated for these awards are six designers with an idiosyncratic vision of design and how it contributes to the world around them. With their inquisitive and artisanal approach, and by bringing different disciplines together, they continue Cuypers’ legacy.
Nominated for the Harrie Tillie Prize, aimed at young talent, are: Bouke Bruins, Nienke Hoogvliet, and Bart Lunenburg.
For the Limburg Design Award, the prize for talented established designers, the nominees are: Simone Post, Team Thursday, and Studio Truly Truly x Leolux.
Bouke Bruins stimulates passersby in public space with cheerful interventions that break daily routines. As a social designer, he tries to surprise and unsettle passers-by so that they become aware of where they are and their own routines. His designs change the meaning of the space in which they stand and are a starting point for new encounters.

Nienke Hoogvliet develops products that do not harm nature by responsibly processing residual materials – such as fish skin – and natural raw materials – such as seaweed. As a maker, she is committed to raising awareness of the long-term value that sustainable material choices can offer.

Bart Lunenburg investigates the memory layers of buildings, and specifically: how architecture stores ideas, desires, fears and flaws. He reworks materials related to the history of the building using traditional techniques, often in surprising combinations: from weaving to inlays.

Simone Post gives materials labeled as waste a new life. Her work ranges from small to very large, from ceramics to murals – everything is equally colorful and outspoken. With her work, she wants to create awareness at a time when raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce.

Team Thursday (Simone Trum and Loes van Esch) combines a love of color, patterns and typography into recognizable designs. By applying patterns also to spatial objects, such as furniture or even entire interiors, a coherence between objects and architecture is created. Thus the designs of Team Thursday form a Gesamtkunstwerk, as it were.

Studio Truly Truly (Kate and Joel Booy) is the artistic director of furniture manufacturer Leolux. They design fabrics, furniture and lamps – objects that define the space we live in and our behavior within it. Function and experience come together in carefully chosen combinations of materials, structures and colors.
