Artistic Catalogue, Studio Another Day
Winner European Design Award, Silver
Designing the catalogue for The Best Dutch Book Designs 2023 was both an honor and a challenge. Our goal was to create a functional, inspiring publication that highlighted the 33 selected books and offered a new perspective on Dutch book design.
We approached it like a curated exhibition, giving each book its own foldout ‘mini-book’ with Dutch and English texts side by side for clarity. This layout aligned jury reports and technical details directly with the book images.
To encourage a personal connection, we focused on tactile design. Six printers used different paper types from Igepa Nederland, grouping the books into material-based categories to show how paper influences design and emotion.
The red and purple Wibalin hardcover, with subtle embossing, reflected the care in every detail. Studio Another Day’s photography emphasized each book’s unique qualities, often showing them held in hands to underline their human scale.
The result is a catalogue that honors Dutch bookmaking through thoughtful design, materials, and printing quality.
