Design to Market – Talent Program. Over the coming weeks, Dutch Design Daily will be introducing the participants of 2025, today Herman Hondebrink.
What is a good design really worth when you know the impact its production has on people and the environment? That question has been on the mind of talented designer Herman Hondebrink for years.

With Studio Herman, he combines technical expertise with design research and activism. He works on consumer products while also exploring the ethical side of industrial design. For example, he used an electrochemical installation to reveal the hidden costs of raw material extraction. And with a seemingly ordinary chair, he showed how product design is not only functional, but can also be a means of critical inquiry.

This paradox—designing for industry while critically questioning industry—is at the heart of his work. At Design to Market, Herman wants to explore how he can better connect his ideals and entrepreneurship.
