The 33 Dutch Best Designed Books of 2025 have been announced. It is noteworthy that a large number of books (9 titles) address current social issues such as the war in Gaza and the nitrogen crisis.
Today, the Netherlands announces the 33 Best Dutch Book Designs 2025. A professional jury assessed 281 books on their distinctive qualities in terms of content, design, lithography, typography, materials, printing and binding. The jury, consisting of graphic design students from six different academies and colleges, made its own selection.
Noteworthy in the selection of the expert jury:
- Eight books fall into the non-fiction category, 24 books are about art, photography and architecture, and there is one novel.
- Of the 33 books, eight titles are self-published, with the author, artist or designer responsible for the content and publication.
- The selection also reflects current social themes such as the war in Gaza, decolonisation, the nitrogen crisis and migration.
- Two books were designed by students: Benaiah French (KABK) and Anabel Pérez Lubian (KABK).
- Of the 33 books, 8 were printed abroad; Wilco Art Books is the best-represented Dutch printer with 12 books.
- Publishers The Eriskay Connection and Jap Sam Books are both best represented with 5 books.
The Best Dutch Book Designs (professional jury and student jury) traditionally take centre stage in the exhibition of the same name at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in the autumn. On 12 March, the international jury for ‘Best Book Design from all over the world’ will announce which books have won awards.
