ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curator Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2025, Amber Grothe is one of them.

I’m Amber Grothe, a Rotterdam-based Artist and Designer exploring the synergy between art, craftwomanship, and material innovation.

With a background in Fine Arts, my work is driven by a fascination with color, tactility, and the transformative power of materials. I merge painting with textile and ceramic techniques to create both artistic expressions and functional designs—from woven carpets to handcrafted ceramic objects. My work explores how color and materiality influences perception, space, and interaction, resulting in sensory-rich pieces that bridge the gap between art and everyday use.

I’m deeply fascinated by the emotional power of color—how it shapes spaces and influences our state of mind. With bold colors, organic forms, and layered textures, I aim to bring the subconscious to the surface, spark an emotional connection, and create a playful, uplifting energy in my work.

I love experimenting with materials, exploring the boundaries where art & design empower each other. Over time, my ceramic creations have emerged from my 2D paintings—like little creatures coming to life.

Driving Dutch Design
Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of the Dutch design sector that helps driven designers get started in the world of creative entrepreneurship. Besides Design your business and Design your identityfor startups, in 2025 there is also DDD Next Level for mid-career designers.

The organisation is in the hands of the BNO and the programme is supported by Stichting Stokroos and the Cultuurfonds, thanks in part to the Ahrend Fonds.
