ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2024Sophia Zobel is one of them.

Earthbound Alchemy
Rooted in the earth beneath her feet, jewelry designer Sophia Zobel takes us on a journey of excavation, cherishing the contradiction between preservation and transformation.

The lack of gemstones in Dutch soil fuels her search for other types of soil finds. In doing so, she forges an intimate connection with the land, its history and the ephemeral nature of existence. Through her jewelry, Sophia weaves tangible links to forgotten stories and celebrates the beauty of resilience in materials weathered by time and circumstance.

In her latest work, ‘Earthbound Alchemy’, Sophia gives new life to discarded shards of 17th-century Roemer glass – a chalice once treasured at the dinner table. This new collection, which consists of unique pieces will be displayed at The Pool Jewelry Collective Amsterdam, located at Grimburgwal 4 in Amsterdam.

Make your own ring
Have you always wanted to design your own silver ring? Or are you looking for a unique and creative gift? Welcome to the world of Make your own ring, where each piece of jewelry tells a unique story.

Discover the fun of making with your own hands and have your unique ring cast in first grade silver and polished by a professional goldsmith. Make your own ring lets you sculpt your own ring and imprint everything in professional jewelry wax; from fingerprints to your favorite coin or shells.

Make your own ring is made possible by Sophia Zobel, professional jewelry designer and silversmith. She currently shares a studio at the old Zwitsal site in Apeldoorn. Here she manufactures the silver rings for Make your own ring as well as her own work.

Sophia Zobel is driver of the professionalization program Driving Dutch Design. This program helps her tremendously with Marketing, finance and positioning. For example, through Driving Dutch Design and her colleagues there, she looked at the price of her kit, created a new website and also adjusted her Message house.

Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship.
