ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2024. Today Mara Skujeniece and Susanne Kennedy of Studio KENNSK.
After years of working separately from each other – Mara as a spatial and product designer and teacher at the Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE), and Susanne as a set designer and stylist for various magazines and furniture brands, and as co-founder and curator of Festival Designkwartier Den Haag – we got to work on a design assignment in 2020 which brought us together. We liked this collaboration so much that in 2023 we decided to officially continue together as Studio KENNSK.
At Studio KENNSK, we focus on designing spaces and products, and experimenting with materials and colors. We aim to bring a unique approach to each project, designing in a research based and innovative way, yet staying sensitive to the context of the project and in dialogue with our clients. We really believe in collaborating with other designers and (furniture) makers to create unique and bespoke designs. Our main emphasis lies on the experience of spaces and products, alongside sustainable design choices.
Driving Dutch Design
Our participation in Driving Dutch Design came at exactly the right time. Despite our individual experiences and previous ventures, we felt we could use some help to refine our focus. The master classes provided us with valuable tools that helped us sharpen our vision and define our goals more clearly. Thanks to this program, we can now work with greater clarity at the growth of our studio.
Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship.
