Charlois and the Sterren

Roel Lutkenhaus & Rogier Arents

Digital | Publication

What do you see when you look at the digital starry sky from Rotterdam-Charlois? Media scientist Roel Lutkenhaus and artist Rogier Arents explored the YouTube and Twitter cosmos, drawing the stories they encountered in two star charts.

These maps have been hanging behind the windows of residents of the neighborhood since December. They could also be seen on two mega advertising pillars. In addition to the pillars, Roel and Rogier have recorded interviews with influential players in the networks, such as an involved local resident, the local police officer, a train vlogger and local media. In the conversations they address the question of how social media help them to strengthen the bond with the neighborhood.
