During Dutch Design Week Eindhoven, Red Box will present an exhibition and public programme at Aera 51 on Strijp S, exploring how design can strengthen the position of women in society. Red Box shows how design choices influence women’s daily lives and how design can contribute to an inclusive world.

Entangled in Adhesions
Entangled in Adhesions tells Sammies personal story about years of frustration due to not being taken seriously by medical professionals about problems with her menstrual cycle. Central is a woven tapestry that symbolizes the pain and challenges that many people with a uterus face. It evokes the feeling that forces outside of their body are pulling at them, as if they’re not the ones that have control over their own bodies. Accompanying the artwork is a junk journal that captures the journey towards acceptation of chronic pain and the confusion surrounding the term endometriosis. Sammie hopes that by sharing her own story, she will encourage others to do the same and share their pain and frustration. She and her work are there to hear you anyway.

About Sammie Dok
Sammie is a 23-year-old multidisciplinary artist and designer from Tilburg. She created Sammies Universe as a place to embrace the interest in different crafts in a world that often demands artists to choose one niche. In this Universe, Sammie creates a space for loaded subjects to float to the surface: she often addresses feminism, sexual health, and body image. Working mostly with textile mediums and music, she transforms these topics into striking sounds, images and intriguing or intuitive materials, hoping to make the world a bit softer and more understanding, one string at a time.
