Singer Laren presents a special double exhibition focusing on the works of befriended French painters Henri Martin (1860-1943) and Henri Le Sidaner (1862-1939). The exhibition is a unique collaboration with the renowned design studio Kiki & Joost, which is responsible for the contemporary scenography. This allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the idyllic and intimate world of the two neo-impressionists.
Henri Martin & Henri Le Sidaner
Martin and Le Sidaner’s paintings exude tranquility and romance. Their elaborate gardens, attractively set tables and serene landscapes have long been dismissed as “sweet-natured,” but thanks to a renewed appreciation in the art world, they are now receiving the recognition they deserve. Curator Anne van Lienden of Singer Laren emphasizes that their work, with subtle play of light, refined brushstrokes and intimate subjects, is particularly relevant in these times of turmoil and uncertainty. The museum also has the largest museum collection of works by Le Sidaner outside of France, thanks to Anna and William Singer’s close friendship with the artist. “The escapism evoked by their paintings speaks to us perhaps more than ever,” Van Lienden said.

Collaboration with Designstudio Kiki & Joost
To give the exhibition a contemporary form, Singer Laren is working with Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk of the renowned Design Studio Kiki & Joost. They are responsible for the scenography of the exhibition. Each room will be designed so that visitors feel completely immersed in the world of Martin and Le Sidaner, with themes such as desire (to ‘be there’), positivity and the human touch taking center stage. Together with Singer Laren, they bring the art of the past to the present in a unique way.
