The Centraal Museum presents Toevallig alles goed (Everything Just Right), a retrospective of 25 years of work and experimentation by Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen.

The exhibition focuses on the design process and material research of Dutch designers Tejo Remy and René Veenhuizen. Toevallig alles goed is designed as a studio: visitors walk through a space where collection pieces, form studies, and material experiments together reveal the duo’s creative process.

Happy accidents
While many designers start with a clearly defined plan, Remy and Veenhuizen’s work begins with the material itself. Intuition, experimentation, and chance form the foundation of their practice. A stack of old drawers, a piece of concrete, or an unexpectedly bouncing tennis ball can be the starting point for a new design. These ‘happy accidents’ are not incidental but an essential part of their working method. Their studio functions as a laboratory where process, material, and meaning constantly intertwine.

Iconic pieces from the collection
The Centraal Museum has been following Tejo Remy’s work since the late 1990s, when he made his international breakthrough with iconic designs such as Chest of Drawers (1991) and Rag Chair (1991), works that were promoted by the influential Droog Design. These objects are now part of the museum’s collection, as are later designs by Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen such as Bamboo Chair (2007) and the Tennis Ball Bench (2003). Several key works from the collection are included in the exhibition, creating a rich overview of the development of their practice.

About Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen
Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen is the studio of designers Tejo Remy (1960) and René Veenhuizen (1968), who have been collaborating since 2000. Both designers studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) and built their practice in Utrecht, where their work remains firmly rooted.

Their work operates at the intersection of design and fine art and is presented internationally in leading museums and exhibitions. Designs by the duo are included in the collections of, among others, the Centraal Museum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

Utrecht Lokaal
In Utrecht Lokaal, the Centraal Museum is showcasing recent works by Utrecht-based artists, many of which were created specifically for the exhibition, within the exhibition space designed by Krijn de Koning.
