The Vilt aan Zee studio, founded in 2011, is located in a characteristic building in the old center of The Hague. Here, Anne van de Weijer (1976) designs and creates handmade felt lamps and wall panels made from 100% wool.
Anne studied architecture in Delft and worked as an architect for ten years. During a textile workshop, she discovered felt, a material that immediately appealed to her because of its soft, light-filtering effect, which is very suitable for lampshades.

The creative process is central to her work. The wool is applied layer by layer, which determines the shape and appearance of the object. Anne experimented with different types of wool and now works mainly with high-quality wool from England. She uses natural white wool as a base, which can be enriched with color accents or silk threads.
Vilt aan Zee started with round lampshades in various sizes and later expanded its range with organically shaped lamps. A kind of cuddly blobs.

Anne also creates felt wall panels, each one a unique work of art. These panels combine an intense color experience with a soft appearance and also have sound-absorbing properties. Anne is currently experimenting with circular compositions in which the clear and elegant shape is executed in different layers of color.

Anne makes both the lamps and the panels to order. Customers are welcome to visit the store in The Hague to discuss their requirements.
