In 2023-2024, De Wolden will be Cultural Municipality of Drenthe. This will be celebrated with the art and culture manifestation Wiede Wold, The Future of our Countryside. The community of De Wolden, together with artists, designers, theater makers and other creatives will search for the future of our countryside.

Wiede Wold designroute
Seven national-level designers have been invited to immerse themselves in the countryside and its inhabitants. The designers reflect on the theme ‘The future of our countryside’ and make the imagination of that future tangible. Together with residents of De Wolden, they provide inspiring new perspectives on the meaning and value of the countryside.

The works are spread in and around the village of Echten in surprising indoor and outdoor locations and highlight different topics about nature, the land, local materials and production, sustainability & climate, social cohesion, youth culture and traditions and customs.

The common denominator of all the works is the search for ways to change perspectives and bring together people with different beliefs.
