ONE WEEK ABOUT Driving Dutch Design by curators Patrick Aarts Sen (BNO) and Katja Lucas (DDF). Over the next few days, we show the Drivers of 2024. Today Ilse Evers of design studio Eversom.
“Welcome to the world of Eversom – Dutch firehose design. My design studio is located in Rotterdam in the makers district M4H. With craftsmanship and an unconventional eye, we transform mountains of rejected fire hoses into powerful designs. Sustainable objects full of stories with a timeless appeal.”
“I think it’s important that we show people how beautiful reuse and circular design can be. With an Eversom you have the looks of leather, but stronger, water-resistant and much more fascinating because of all its details.”
“We have a permanent collection, but we also work custom. For example, I like to work with designers and interior architects to make sure the design really fits the environment.”
“All hoses are used in the Netherlands and are manufactured in our own workshop. Fascinated by the idiosyncratic material, I developed my own tools and unique patterns to work the material. It is through emphasizing the properties already present that a collaboration between the material and the designs is created.”
“Driving Dutch Design has given me a network of unique, enthusiastic creatives. All the drivers bring their own experience and goals, which makes it very rich. The master classes really give you a foothold to build your business more solidly step by step.”
Driving Dutch Design is the professionalisation and networking programme of Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO), Dutch Design Foundation (DDF) and Stichting Stokroos that helps talented designers get started in the world of entrepreneurship.
