On 20 October last, the book ‘Fascinatie Textiel / Fascination Textile’ about Liset van der Scheer‘s designs was christened at the TextielMuseum in Tilburg.
Caroline Boot, former curator of the same museum, briefly told a room filled with clients, colleagues, friends and family how Van der Scheer’s 45-year career had progressed.

After studying at the Academie Industriële Vormgeving in Eindhoven – now the Design Academy – Van der Scheer applied her talent, passion, enormous sense of colour and ever-growing expertise to hundreds of designs for yarns, carpets and the most diverse other forms of textiles. Her clients included renowned, international companies such as Danskina, Casalis, Kvadrat and De Ploeg. In short, an equally exemplary and classic career as a designer of the finest textiles produced in recent decades.

With stunning photographs by Valerie van der Wal and illustrations and graphics by gebr. silvestri, the book, produced by Van der Scheer herself, is a visual delight. Not only Van der Scheer’s designs, but also her sources of inspiration are photographed with eye-catching beauty. With this, the whole book has become a plea for designs for industry and a refutation of the idea that it would be uniform or boring. The beautiful images are preceded by a foreword by the designer, an interview with her by Caroline Boot and an essay on the genesis of the textile design profession by Mienke Simon Thomas. Pao Lien Djie signed on to edit the whole thing. Lecturis is the publisher of the book.
