What is the ultimate medium for the complex, urgent, and sensitive stories of our time? Kossmanndejong argues that an exhibition, designed as a spatial experience that engages both the mind and the heart, is the ultimate medium for creating social impact.
In their newest publication, Make Space for Change, the award-winning agency explores the essential ingredients for spatial stories with impact. Drawing from three decades of international experience and insights from fellow creative pioneers, the book investigates how design can spark curiosity and invite audiences to suspend judgment in favor of wonder and empathy. This publication was realized in close collaboration with Jap Sam Books as publisher and Haller Brun for the graphic design.

A Manifesto for the Future
The seeds for this book were sown three years ago during a pivotal transition for the studio. As founders Herman Kossmann and Mark de Jong stepped back to hand the baton to a new generation, the agency sought a way to codify and share their decades of experience and knowledge with the wider creative community. The publication serves as both a retrospective and a forward-looking manifesto for the future of spatial storytelling.
“We wanted to pass down the years of insights and experiences not only with your studio, but with the entire creative community and anyone interested in making space for change,” says Femke Bijlsma, Partner at Kossmanndejong and the book’s author.
