The Newspaper
After last elections, the Netherlands took a pull to the right and elected a party that goes against all my principles I want to stand for such as freedom of speech, mercy, culture, journalism and solidarity.
I have decided to start a weekly newspaper of 8 pages, one page each day, plus the cover and publish a poem that can offer us comfort or insight. Number 01 is titled ‘Watsgeburt’ and came out in week 48 on Monday, December 4, number 2 will be made titled ‘The Explorer’.
I scan the Internet, take pictures and collages. Collect statements and texts that sharpen my thoughts and research how language is used in a populist political culture.
The idea is that I will make the paper weekly until a certain point when tempers have calmed, when there is a coalition or perhaps new elections. We shall see. The paper is made on Mondays and looks back at the week before. This allows room for reflection and allows me to escape the noise of the moment.
