‘It’s me’ Art Sewing Club by Bas Kosters

By 24-01-2024

‘It’s me’ is the title of a monument that Bas Kosters created for the Group exhibition ‘(Un)monumenting: The future should always be better’ at NDSM in Amsterdam.

The monument is about power and reigning over others, but it is also a monument about our self-centered society, based on hyper individualism and the selfie-culture. The statue is a playful representation of Bas his character Teewee, who is manifested as a gender-fluid horse like figure, looking like a provocative plaything.

During the (Un)monumenting exhibition Bas organized the ‘It’s me’ Art Sewing Club in his studio. Visitors could come with their own garment and sew on a limited edition digitally printed textile patch with the image of the ‘It’s me’ statue. With these customized garments the patch goes into the world and carries out the message of the artwork and express everyone’s hyper individuality as part of the ‘It’s me’ art club.
