This bench is a symbolic and poetic representation of the present time in which we, due to the covid-19 pandemic, live in a 1.5 meter society. It opens up opportunities for lasting encounters with friends and family, but also with strangers who all at the same time sit down on the bench. It offers hope, ensures that we can see each other, won’t forget each other – even though it is from a distance.
The bench is 2.5 meters wide, with the middle part – exactly 1.5 meters – in polished stainless steel. So, the intermediate part becomes invisible because of the mirror force; only the left and right side of the bench can clearly be seen as a seating area. The reflection ensures a physical distance, but at the same time it makes the distance invisible.
