Canal skybridge Amsterdam

By 14-12-2023

Artist Frankey, aka Street Art Frankey, was commissioned by global financial technology platform Adyen to design the canal skybridge in Amsterdam. To connect Adyen’s two offices on the Rokin, Frankey pays tribute to Amsterdam’s iconic canal bridge. Boltt is responsible for the permitting process and technical design, IPV Delft created the structural design.

Adyen’s brief was clear: ‘Create a bridge that will enrich the city of Amsterdam. An icon for decades to come, that residents will truly love and that visitors will visit in delight.’ Frankey was inspired by the beauty of Amsterdam’s canal early in the morning. While cycling across the canal bridge with the reflection of the magnificent canal houses in the rippling water.

In his final design all the unique elements of the original canal bridge return, such as the recognizable Amsterdam lantern, the cast iron green railing and the combination of natural stone and brick. All this in a surreal, abstracted version: just a tad crooked and slightly out of proportion.
