The Canon of Dutch History
The Canon van Nederland (The Canon of Dutch History), the list of fifty thematic frames summarizing the Dutch history, has been brought to life in the Open Air Museum in Arnhem. In the entrance pavilion that had been renovated by Mecanoo, Kossmandejong designed the permanent exhibition of the same name as a multimedia film set. The theatrical combination of physical, interactive and audiovisual media with exceptional collection presentations has evoked a stimulating and fascinating graphic novel. In the carefully reconstructed spatial collage of historical icons, the stories of ordinary people like you and me play a central role enabling the visitor to enter the past for a moment and to experience it from the present in a penetrating manner.
Kossmanndejong was founded in 1998 by Herman Kossmann and Mark de Jong. The award-winning international design office offers a unique approach to the exhibition design profession. The innovative approach of storytelling results in narrative environments in which cognitive information and objects are used to enable stimulating spatial stories.
