Dd, Dutch designers Yearbook ’23-’24: Naturing

By 19-12-2023

The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO) publishes the fourth edition of Dd, Dutch Designers Yearbook. Dd Yearbook offers a candid take on what Dutch designers are thinking and making now: through essays and interviews, graduation projects and award-winning work. Discover the resilience of designers and the enduring value of design for addressing today and tomorrow’s challenges.

In a time when the world is faced with the negative consequences of climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and rapid technological developments, designers are seeking solutions to create a better world. What if it were possible to rebuild a sustainable relationship with nature, instead of destroying it? With that positive mindset, we chose the theme Naturing this year, a verb that involves ‘designing with and for nature’. How can designers contribute to a healthy balance between people, nature, and technology?

In this ’23-’24 edition we’re not just looking back, we’re also looking to the future. The book includes essays by multimedia artist and philosopher Koert van Mensvoort and journalist Jeroen Junte, graduation projects from Dutch design programmes, award-winning design cases, a profile article on the impact of AI on the design world, the professionalization and networking programme Driving Dutch Design, a visual essay on design at the intersection of nature and technology, and interviews with, among others, 4F.STUDIO, Marcos Kueh, Studio Dumbar/DEPT®, Springtime Design, Djenné Fila, and BNO Piet Zwart Prize winner Karel Martens.

On Thursday 14 December, the Dd Yearbook ’23-’24 was launched at the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam.
