Egglamp

By 07-12-2023

As a fan of Droog Design, Ruben de Haas created a simple and fun lamp, a playful lamp made from real eggs. These unique lightbulbs are surprisingly beautiful and interesting due to the imperfections of the eggshells. During the design process, Ruben discovered ‘B-eggs’. These are eggs that are ‘too ugly’ for consumers and are often sold to bakers to use in their production. The eggs have a weird, deformed look, which he actually consider to be even more beautiful and unique. They make great lights. Made especially for the Egglamp, Ruben de Haas created this cheerful fixture. Available in Brown and White, it fits perfectly with this lamp made from real egg cartons.

For the Dutch Design Week Ruben invited Josha Roymans and Micky van Hoogendijk to make a special piece to highlight his Egglamp.

Josha Roymans – IC-16
The new piece is specially designed around the egg shells and therefor is smaller than Josha is used to. None the less it is an impressive piece with three fixtures! The three lampshade-domes that are seamlessly merged together causes to bounce the light in different angles, making it even more shiny!

Josha makes big and unique light sculptures. The work of Josha is created by bringing his two dimensional sketches directly into the third dimensional world. No matter how big or small the sketches are, Josha believes that a sketch is the most pure and intuitive creation. studiojosha.com

Micky Hoogendijk – Appeltje Eitje
After meeting Ruben de Haas she wanted to see what her sculptures would do if she would take them out of context. The Egglamp gives Hoogendijk’s sculpture a more playful character which inspired her to make this cheerful figure. Changing a part of here recognizable visual language to make it function as a lamp and come together with The Egglamp. ‘Appeltje Eitje’ is like Hoogendijk’s other sculptures made at the bronze foundry Kemner in Cuijk.

Micky Hoogendijk is a visual artist and photographer with exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Her thematic focus is characterized by attention to the diversity of humanity. ‘What I create is about vulnerability and strength, about the path to freedom.’ mickyhoogendijk.com
