El Último Islote

By 27-03-2024

Nominee DuPho. SO Student Award 2024

‘I strive to build worlds that are uniquely mine, by drawing inspirations from the stories my surroundings offer me. Independent from my own role within this own reality, I strive to let my creativity flow and look for ways to bring my ideas to life. At the moment my focus is on emphasizing the positive aspects of what may be perceived as a problem. This involves adopting a positive perspective and finding acceptance and satisfaction in the situation.’

El Último Islote – The last islet
‘Plastic has become an indispensable part of our lives. We all know the negative aspects of plastic. People often talk about the plastic soup in the ocean, which is difficult to combat because plastic is hardly biodegradable and causes great damage to the environment.

The reason we use plastic is for its positive sides. Think of packaging foodstuff. And more and more, we don’t let plastic just wander in the environment but rather collect it for recycling.

For me, plastic is a material that I transform into a new reality, in which organic and inorganic elements come together.  After transformation, plastic has become an image that naturally fits into my world.  By playing with light and movement I look for dynamics and abstraction.

Not the burden of plastic is central, but rather a hopeful view: the start of something new.’
