FASHIONCLASH Festival 2023

By 18-11-2023

15th edition of the international and interdisciplinary FASHIONCLASH Festival will take place from November 17 – 19, 2023 in Maastricht.

During this three-day festival, a new generation of designers and performing artists from home and abroad will get the chance to show their work to a wide (inter)national audience. The program with an exhibition, performances, talks, workshops and fashion film screenings showcases projects that explore, contextualize and celebrate contemporary fashion culture.

The multi-voice program is a composite selection from proposals submitted through open calls and from projects initiated by FASHIONCLASH itself and developed in co-production with various organizations and creators. For FASHIONCLASH, the annual festival is a vehicle to unlock results from all projects and talent development tracks of the annual program in the fall.

Opening: New Fashion Narratives
Bureau Europa, Boschstraat 9, Maastricht
New Fashion Narratives represents the current generation of designers who see fashion as a mission. They explore the boundaries of their discipline, question social systems and specifically the fashion industry. With their works, they move between the interdisciplinary domains of fashion, social design, visual arts and investigate the relationship with the user/consumer. FASHIONCLASH invited five fashion practitioners (Enzo Aitkaci, Chinouk Filique, Jonathan Ho, Lotte de Jager and Boris Kollar) to co-develop a multimedia presentation concept for the exhibition program component of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2023.

FASHIONCLASH Festival campaign project
Centre Céramique (third floor), Avenue Ceramique 50, Maastricht
This year the campaign for FASHIONCLASH Festival was developed entirely in co-creation with young people. From outfits to styling and performance: more than 40 people aged 8 to 37 years took part in the project, which took place in April and May 2023. During this period, FASHIONCLASH set up a Pop-Up Atelier, in collaboration with Centre Céramique. Several local fashion designers guided fashion making workshops and photographer Laura Knipsael and video maker Steve Iseger guided the young people in photo and video production. The result, consisting of a collection of outfits, a series of photos and a short fashion film will be used to promote the festival. The results from the workshops can also be seen in this exhibition.

Upcycling & Mending
Centre Céramique (basement), Avenue Ceramique 50, Maastricht
In this workshop you will learn how to creatively breathe new life into your damaged garment. By using simple embroidery techniques (mending) and creating patches you can give your old garment a new, longer life! You can bring your own piece of clothing, but you can also choose something from our selection of clothing and textiles on location.

S.A.C
Rechtstraat 80, Maastricht
S.A.C./ Store. Arts. Concepts. is an open and ever-evolving space & studio in Maastricht where art and unique products are being presented and sold; where creative concepts, ideas and design emerge and where creative minds come together to work, to inspire, to co-create and to connect. S.A.C. is initiated by Karin Smits, Iris Houkes and Miranda Reijnders. During FASHIONCLASH Festival, S.A.C. presents: Floris Wamelink, Underdog Collective & OUR SHIFT.

OUR SHIFT
The Green Elephant Hostel (garden), Sint Maartenslaan 11, Maastricht
Have you ever seen the festival camp areas, after people leave?  people leave tents, just because they don’t want to carry them, since they are too “tired”. OUR SHIFT is trying to change the mentality of these people and raises awareness about this issue. From the left behind tents they are creating clothes, bags and an exhibition.OUR SHIFT is an activistic fashion brand, fighting against old fashion in order to change it. They are creating a responsible and better alternative to what exists now while building a community of fashion firefighters with whom they can stop the burning issue of landfilling clothes and incineration.

Townhouse Hotel
Sint Maartenslaan 5, Maastricht
In the lobby of Townhouse Hotel you can find the work of Azalja van Dijk and Bastiaan Reijnen, both participants of New Fashion Narratives at Bureau Europa.

Marres, House for Contemporary Culture (garden house)
Capucijnenstraat 98, Maastricht

Four Exhibitions: Roumans, Ugo Woatzi, Tim van der Plas, André Konings

DOMINIK
De Meldkamer, Capucijnenstraat 21, Maastricht
Dominik is a clothing collective of three artists: Don Possen (DO), Mike Moonen (MI), Nika Schmitt (NIK). Together they recombine pre-owned clothes and styles in a transformer way with no hierarchies. Each with their own method of approach, they unite powers to create unique, wearable and non-wearable fashion pieces.
