Lorel Futurity collection
During Milan Design Week (April 18-23, 2023), Venlo-based designer Malou Beemer showed the first 3 wall objects of her Lorel Futurity collection. The Dutch Corner of the Isola Design Gallery, curated by Wisse Trooster, was visited by Her Majesty Queen Máxima at the beginning of Design Week. After a tour of the gallery, the Queen herself showed interest in the project and she was able to experience the interactive system in person.
The Lorel Futurity collection consists of collectible handmade wall objects that are partly wearable. The collection is a spin-off of the research project of the same name which was shown elsewhere in the Isola District.
The Futurity research project
As a result of a collaboration with the Fashion Research and Technology research group of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, the research project Futurity was created. A project which investigates the value we feel towards textile objects. Through the combination of traditional textile techniques and new technological innovations, objects were developed that cross and question the boundaries between interior, architecture, art, design and clothing. The results of this research project were on display in the collective exhibition DESIGN AFTER GENERATION during Milan Design Week 2023.
And now?
Both the interactive principle of the collection and the aesthetic design have been very positively received in Milan and taste for more. Malou Beemer is therefore open to new collaborations to further develop and deepen the concept and platforms to showcase and sell the collection. In this, collaboration with local parties is also an important focus for the coming period.
