New Miffy museum in Utrecht

By 22-06-2023

The new Miffy Museum in Utrecht was festively opened on Wednesday 21 June, on Miffy’s birthday. Sharon Dijksma, mayor of Utrecht, and miffy together opened the museum with a golden key. The renovated museum has almost doubled in size and features a Miffy Museum café, a 360-degree projection and new theme rooms. From Thursday 22 June, the museum will be open to the public and all children are welcome to come and discover the museum.

Not only have the existing rooms been renovated, the museum also has two new themed areas: ‘Jan’s farm’ and ‘Betje’s shop’. Special teaching programmes have been developed for preschools and primary schools. Also new is ‘nina’s reading room’ with books to read aloud from. This is also where regular read-aloud moments are organised. On the route through the museum, visitors automatically pass a 360-degree projection room. Here they can watch a show starring boris bear.

Even more accessible
The Miffy Museum is specially designed for toddlers and pre-schoolers, close to their world of experience and at their size. Children can playfully learn through art, language and movement. The museum is completely wheelchair-friendly and has taken into account children with visual or hearing impairments. Besides visual games, there are games with relief and made of different tactile materials. There are tactile games, smell boxes and movement games. Irritable children can calm down in one of the low-stimulation booths. The reading moments are in different languages and guided tours in Dutch Sign Language are organised.

Miffy Museum café and Miffy products
In the museum café, visitors can enjoy a snack and drink, entirely in Miffy style. Miffy products are still for sale across the street: in the Centraal Museum shop. Several Miffy products are made exclusively for the museum.
