RAUM der Lusten – Online (game) experience

By 04-05-2021

From exhibition to online experience
For the physical exhibition RAUM der Lusten Stadslab RAUM was looking for a platform that could make the exhibition online accessible for a larger audience in an exciting and creative way. Together with developer Thomas Lievestro, Utrecht-based design studio Kummer & Herrman developed the concept for this innovative spatial experience for desktop and mobile devices, in which RAUM’s vision was leading: online visitors should experience, explore and witness. The online component was born out of necessity due to the corona measures, but is designed to be much more than just an online alternative to the physical exhibition on the Berlin square: it offers a full-fledged experience. The platform consists of an illustrated version of the physical exhibition, in collaboration with illustrator Nina Mathijsen. The visitors undergo an actual exhibition experience: they can communicate with other visitors and go on a virtual voyage of discovery through the grounds together.

Experimental and surprising
The platform is experimental, offers opportunities for reflection and contains a number of surprising, deepening elements that can be discovered through play. As an avatar, one can join the tour of a devilish curator who provides explanations on a number of unique works of art every five minutes, or escape from the everyday hustle and bustle with a relaxing meditation or yoga session. The livestreams on the platform can also be used to follow the events of the exhibition from a distance. The programme of the exhibition and information about the artworks are available in various forms.
