Roots #60 Piet Schreuders
From an early age, Piet Schreuders (1951) was captivated by being able to tell stories with his drawings, texts and their layout. Later, at the youth magazine Aloha, he experimented with layout, made technically possible by the then new offset printing technique and relevant by the emerging youth culture in the 1960s. Because of Schreuders’ diverse interests, his thorough research and his great pleasure in telling about them, he has been publishing independently from an early age in all forms – articles, books and magazines, of which De Poezenkrant became one of his best-known. A lover of popular visual culture, Schreuders often writes about it and is inspired by it. As a result, he once wondered why the academic monoculture of modernism dominated the work of so many designers. Then Schreuders’ pen is sharp and at the same time dipped in humour. Furthermore, his writing always reads smoothly, is meticulously researched, and even more convincing when he shapes it himself with graphics that support the text. His oeuvre can therefore be considered that of a designing author or else a writing designer.

Last printed Roots cahier
After 20 years and 60 printed cahiers, [Z]OO Producties is going to discontinue the printed version of the series. Roots #60 Piet Schreuders is the last Roots cahier to appear in print. Titus Yocarini and Rob Huisman reflected on 60 x Roots.
