UrbanFarmers Rooftop Market

By 01-11-2017

Urban farm UF002 De Schilde is located in the former office building De Schilde in the Moerwijk district. Architect Dirk Roosenburg designed the building in the fifties by order of Philips. It was an early attempt to high-rise building, something the Netherlands was very reserved at in those years. To revitalize the building, The Hague decided to consent to urban farming. In 2016 the biggest urban rooftopfarm was realized on the roof of the former office building De Schilde.

With the production of fresh vegetables and fish, the town farm supplies the town every year with no less than 19 tons of fish and 45 tonnes of vegetables. The concept is to use is as much as possible of what food already contains. Thus, nutrients released in fish production are reused for vegetable cultivation and the plants purify the water in which the fish are grown. Aquaponics is called this system, which makes optimal use of the power of nature. By using aquaponics, UrbanFarmers saves up to 90% of water consumption. In addition, UrbanFarmers does not use pesticides, herbicides or antibiotics. Really healthy and fresh products; Fresh. Revolution!
