The Rescue Tip-Board
The Rescue Tip-Board is an inflatable life raft for rescue workers. It allows them to reach a drowning victim quickly and assist him/her effectively.
When a rescue worker stands at the back of the raft, it makes a tilting movement. By just leaning backwards, the rescuer can hoist the victim on board with little effort. As he/she can start stabilizing the victim immediately, the survival rate of victims of water increases significantly. The raft is pulled by a Seabob, a powerful electric water jet.
This product was developed by Spark design & innovation along with the fire department of Veiligheidsregio Haaglanden (Safety Region Haaglanden). HONOR Safety & Consultancy played an advisory role in the development process in relation to the safety aspects.
In 2014, the design of the Rescue Tip-Board was awarded a Dutch Design Award. The jury praised not only the result but also the development process. The interests of all stakeholders have been taken into account through in-depth research into the specific usage situation and the environmental factors and through close collaboration between the parties involved.
