Volvo Design Challenge 2015
Designer Lilian van Daal has been declared the winner of the Volvo Design Challenge 2015. The jury sees in the winning design a project with a clear vision in which topicality, innovation and material development meet.
In 2014, Volvo established an annual competition for design talent. The winner receives an incentive prize of € 10,000. This year, four young designers were in the race: Borre Akkersdijk, Lilian van Daal, Bob Schiller and Jólan van der Wiel. They each received a work budget for the development of a design based on Volvo’s ‘Designed around you’ philosophy.
With ‘Shapes of Sweden’, Lilian van Daal has captured three current developments: biomimicry, 3D printing and the use of natural materials. Her concept does not only express a vision of the future but also a clear connection with the car brand. The work is innovative, aesthetical and offers opportunities for the industry.
During Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (17-25 October 2015) the work of all participants in the Volvo Design Challenge is put on display in the Klokgebouw (Hall 2) for nine days.
