Fleur Ouwerkerk (1986) is a visual artist based in Amsterdam. Her work explores the relationship between identity and appearance through mixed media, including photography, drawings and hand woven work. This results in (layered) portraits, tapestries and Wearable Art.
Fifteen years ago, when first shaving off her long hair, Fleur got in touch with the role and significance that hair plays in how people perceive beauty and femininity. This experience marked the beginning of her fascination and appreciation, -maybe even obsession- for hair and resulted in the creation of her hand woven Wearable Art and objects, made from (synthetic) hair

“It’s a deliberate choice to work with synthetic hair and not human hair. When we purchase hair; it’s not traceable to its origin; unfortunately often it’s gained under inhumane circumstances. Also for spiritual reasons; this hair already belonged to someone; I don’t want to ‘just take it’ for aesthetic reasons. To me, It’s most important that the material I use makes you think of hair; Therefor I carefully select my synthetic hair of choice.”

At the same time, she will be exhibiting at Oscar. Here you can discover her series ‘Wallflowers’ (abstract flowers, hand-woven wall objects) from 2025, combined with a diptych of two sculptural mixed media portraits – photography, paint, synthetic hair, lurex, yarn on canvas – ‘Roar’ and ‘A State Of Serenity’ from 2021.

Singel 61 Hub – Light objects
For GLUE she challenged herself to combine her signature ‘hair-art’ into the world of applied arts; we can expect to see her first series of (hairy) lamps, inspired by clouds.
