Dwars Vers

By 31-03-2017

Bronze Medal at the Best Book Design from all over the World
Fifty poems of two well known American poets – Emily Dickinson and Edna St. Vincent Millay – were translated into Dutch and compiled in a book by Ans Bouter, entitled ‘Dwars Vers’. The book design is by Team Thursday. Team Thursday is the graphic design practice of Loes van Esch and Simone Trum.

The book is divided in two halves and has two spines. On a bookshelf it appears to be two separate books. Each poet has her own part, printed in one color. All shared information is printed with both colors on top of each other.

‘Dwars Vers’ was selected for the Best Dutch Bookdesigns 2017 and awarded a Bronze Medal at the Best Book Design from all over the World / Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt 2017. From the jury report: “The spacious proportion of white, the grotesque type of the kind used around 1900, the surprising colors and the severe architecture of the book all provide a fresh setting for the poetry by these two American poetesses.”
