Polymore Project

By 06-08-2015

ONE WEEK ABOUT Experience Design by curators Trapped in Suburbia

Our world revolves around money. That remains the main motivation for most people. It’s just that simple, unfortunately. There is not much that we as designers can change about it. What we can do, however, is to put this fact to good use, turn it around and do something good with it. So, if we can’t eliminate war because war generates money, why can’t we figure out a way to make money from peace? And if waste is a negative by-product of the mass industry, why can’t we make money out of waste?

The people of Better Future Factory juggled with the last-mentioned idea and came up with, among other ideas, the Polymore Project. With this project, they provide local Angolan entrepreneurs with the means to make money out of plastic waste. Plastic waste is a global problem and is primarily addressed by using large, expensive systems that are unattainable for developing countries.

Polymore aims to make recycling available to the masses. For everyone and everywhere. By means of simple, affordable and easy-to-understand plastic recycling tools in combination with a business-in-a-box concept, local entrepreneurs can start working in a fast, simple and independent way. Polymore is currently working on 3 different solutions: The Melter, with which stones can be made; The Caster, with which (by means of molds) more complex products such as bricks can be made; and finally The Cutter, with which wire and therefore ropes, fences and fishing nets can be made. A simple idea that can have a big impact. Splendid!
